Flies and Ladybugs

Last week we finished up learning about bugs by talked about flies and a fun park day to learn about lady bugs!

Monday was all about flies. We learned all kinds of gross facts about flies! We also talked more about rhyming as we played 'Fly on my Fry'. Have you had a chance to play at home and help your child find more -y words?

Wednesday was an adventure! It was so super windy at the park that we packed up and came back to my house. We took the opportunity to start working on sight words! So far they have learned  the words 'a', 'I' and 'and'. As you're reading with your child, please allow them to find these words and read them for you!

Friday we attempted park day again and while it was still windy, it was not as bad. I love park days so much! It is great to have a change of scenery!

We started out with some alphabet practice. The letters of the alphabet were hidden around the park and the kids found them and put them in the right order. They did great at it!

After that we practiced math with ladybug spots. Several of the kiddos are already adding like pros and knew the answer to their problems without even getting the spots out.

We also did some fun things like mosquito tag and making our ladybug wings, but the highlight of the day was searching the park for bugs and observing hundreds of ladybugs! Each child got to spend some time in our tent full of lady bugs. I loved some of their observations! They noticed that some ladybugs have lots of spots and some have no spots. They noticed different colors and sizes of ladybugs and observed their wings and how they fly.

After everyone had a turn we took the tent away and watched the ladybugs as they crawled and flew away!
